Welcome to the e-alkitab in the Helong language! The Helong language is spoken on Semau Island and on the western tip of Timor Island [ISO: mkn].

If you would like to reproduce more than one chapter of the Helong scriptures to be used more widely than for a single congregation, a single prayer group, or a single Bible Study group, please contact UBB-GMIT at firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain written permission.
The Scriptures in the Helong language have been produced in cooperation with international agencies, and have gone through a formal and detailed process. These Scriptures in the Helong language are recognised internationally as the Word of God in the Helong language. Because the Bible belongs to all churches, in this effort GMIT has taken the initiative to spearhead the translation for the sake of serving all denominations to provide the Word of God in the heart language of the Helong-speaking people.
The Helong New Testament will be available in book form towards the end of 2011, and should be found in bookstores around Kupang. Or contact the Language and Culture Unit at the Synod office of GMIT.
The Helong New Testament was translated from the original Greek text, rather than from the Indonesian Bible. Helong Genesis was similarly translated from the original Hebrew text, rather than from the Indonesian Bible. In accord with Bible translation principles widely recognised by Bible agencies in the modern era, these Helong scriptures follow the principles of meaning-based translation, rather than form-based translation which tends to sacrifice understanding and can corrupt the meaning of the original. By following the principles of meaning-based translation, the Helong Scriptures carefully preserve the meaning of the original Greek and Hebrew Bible texts, and render it in everyday Helong language that is both clear and natural. (See the Introduction to the Helong New Testament in book form for more complete information.)
